PROGRAM EVALUATION: The actions in this=20 intervention will be evaluated yearly for = program=20 effectiveness by the principal through = analyzing=20 benchmark and target testing data and CWT=20 (Classroom Walkthroughs). PROGRAM = EVALUATION=20 RESULTS: Through both formal and informal=20 observations, curriculum meetings, = evaluation of=20 test scores, and discussions with both = students=20 and parents, the evaluator found that the = school=20 showed a little improvement over last = year's=20 scores, but as a whole, our eleventh grade = scores=20 fall from the scores of the same students = from=20 when they tested as eighth graders. Much = of this=20 is due to no continuity of teachers. We = have had=20 ten English teachers in five years. We = have=20 changed nearly every year with teachers in = 9th -=20 12th grade English. We have now addressed = this=20 problem. Students are reading and testing = over=20 required Accelerated Reader books each = nine weeks.=20 I believe it has a positive outcome, but = scores at=20 the 11th grade EOC do not reflect it. We = do the=20 same with the junior high, and scores are=20 excellent. Our reading class is successful = in that=20 it has students working on reading and = reading=20 comprehension. Unfortunately, the scores = do not=20 reflect that it made a big difference. We = also do=20 reading with our junior high students, and = they=20 scored well. This leads me to a number of=20 conclusions based upon speculation. Those = upper=20 level students may need a different style = of=20 motivation. They also need continuity. We = need to=20 address areas of weaknesses at both levels = in our=20 remediation program. CWT and informal = observation=20 demonstrated that all but four teachers = regularly=20 use SmartBoard for various instructional = purposes.=20 It is used for delivery of instruction via = lecture=20 notes, streaming video, presentations, = power=20 points, etc. Other items used included = various=20 probes and devices with the science = disciplines;=20 calculators in our math and science = departments;=20 Elmo by media specialist, among others. = Technology=20 use is up and progressing on our campus. = Students=20 also have access to and utilize our = computers,=20 including laptops. Attendance was up on = after=20 school tutoring. We really showed an = increase in=20 our Asian population. Other information = that can=20 lead to a positive conclusion is that = multiple=20 staff members upon interview and in = discussion=20 stated that our Asian students more often = and=20 readily would read during opportunities = for such=20 during instructional time such as after an = assessment or such. At our end of the year = academic awards ceremony, more Asian = students won=20 awards than in any previous year. = Benchmark data=20 shows an increase.

We have = found=20 that Total Insructional Alignment is = helping both=20 the teachers and students to know what is=20 expected. Lit lab is encouraging our = students to=20 read more. Technology is being used in = every=20 classroom. Because literacy scores need to = be=20 improved, we are extending our after = school=20 program, Homework Help, and Grades 7-12 = may now=20 attend. There, students may receive help = on=20 homework, have access to technology, or = read=20 quietly. The English teachers met, too, to = update=20 and collaborate on what was happening = within the=20 English department. A literacy coach was = hired.=20 After incorporating these things, we hope = our=20 assessment at the end of next year will = indicate=20 improvement in area of literacy.

In 2007-2008, BMI results indicated that = of the 60=20 males assessed, 46.7% were at risk for = overweight or=20 obese. In 2008-2009, 71 males were assessed = with 31%=20 overweight or obese. In 2009-2010, 39 males = assessed,=20 46.1% were overweight or obese.=20
In 2007-2008, BMI results indicated that = 35.4% of=20 the 48 females assessed were at risk for = overweight or=20 overweight. In 2008-2009, 50 females were = assessed=20 with 32% overweight or obese. In 2009-2010, 43 = females=20 were assessed with 41.9% overweight or obese.=20
The 2004-2005 School Health Index = indicated that=20 the district needed to have a variety of foods = in=20 school meals. The SHI also showed that health = and=20 stress management needed to be promoted among = the=20 school staff itself. The 2007-2008 School = Health Index=20 indicated that the school's physical education = needed=20 to focus on ensuring every child participated = in their=20 PE class and on gathering data for fitness = levels. The=20 SHI also indicated the school needed = improvement in=20 family and community involvement. NEEDS ASSESSMENT: Through the School = Health=20 Index and trend data for the past three = years, we=20 have found that our wellness section has = been=20 somewhat successful. We implemented an = after=20 school program for students grades 4-8. We = had an=20 average daily attendance of 24 students. = Students=20 were offered a daily snack of milk, fruit, = and a=20 healthy snack. There were also 30-45 = minutes of=20 daily physical activity of organized = games,=20 activities on trust and character, and/or = free=20 play. All after school students improved = their=20 Presidential Fitness testing. In the after = school=20 program, students were assisted in daily = homework,=20 accelerated reader, reading, math facts, = and=20 projects. The High School Heroes aided in = the=20 tutoring. Speakers and presenters came and = spoke=20 in different areas. Our counselor = presented=20 several lessons using the Smart Moves = curriculum=20 that addressed character traits, drugs and = alcohol, and making good choices in risky=20 situations. Corporal Anderson presented on = drinking and driving. A group of quilters = brought=20 their equipment and showed the students = the skill=20 of quilting by letting the students have = hands on=20 experience. Mrs. Robinson presented = lessons on=20 Healthy Fitness and nutrition choices, = hunting=20 safety, and making good choices. The 4H = program=20 presented an ATV (4 Wheeler) Safety = Course. We put=20 42 students through this program. Our = students=20 also competed in a Stamp Out Smoking = Contest. We=20 offered Prevention Magazines as reading = material=20 daily. The encouragement of drinking water = is a=20 continued success. We need to continue to = stress=20 the importance of physical activity with = students=20 as well as staff.
